Folk duo make Shrewsbury appearance

Folk duo Gilmore & Roberts will perform at The Hive in Shrewsbury next month.

They will be at the Belmont venue on September 15 for one of the regular folk concerts organised by Shrewsbury Folk Festival.

The contemporary folk/acoustic duo  combine award-winning songwriting with astounding lap-tapping guitar, fiery fiddle and their trademark harmonies, creating a powerful wall of sound.

Katriona (Gilmore) and Jamie (Roberts) began working together in 2006, and in 2010 were nominated for the BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award. Since then, the duo have toured extensively astonishing audiences up and down the country, as well as performing at some of Britain’s largest acoustic festivals.

Both are familiar faces to festivalgoers nationwide from their previous projects – Gilmore with indie folk sensations Tiny Tin Lady, singer Rosie Doonan and more recently The Albion Band, and Jamie with young English traditionalists Kerfuffle.

Shrewsbury Folk Festival Director Alan Surtees said: “Gilmore and Roberts are hugely talented and will provide a great evening of entertainment. They have previously performed at the folk festival so our audience knows how good they are – it’s time other people found out as well!

“This year’s festival saw a lot of new visitors who said they had a fantastic time so we’d welcome them along to the Hive.”

The 2013 Folk at the Hive season continues with a sold out gig from Rhiannon Giddens and Leyla McCalla from the Carolina Chocolate Drops on October 5, Chris Wood on November 10 and Belzhazzar’s Feast on December 15.

Tickets for all concerts, which start at 7.45pm, are available from The Hive on 01743 234970. For more information, go to www.shrewsburyfolkfestival.co.uk/ news/folk-at-the-hive/.
