Carey Mulligan urges Shropshire residents to help beat dementia

The Great Gatsby actress, Carey Mulligan, is asking Shropshire residents to put on their walking shoes and support the Memory Walk taking place in Attingham Park on Sunday, 22 September 2013.

Carey, who is an Alzheimer’s ambassador said:
“Alzheimer’s Society is a cause very close to my heart as my Nan has dementia, so I grew up experiencing the effects the condition has on her. That’s why I’m supporting the Memory Walk. It gives me the opportunity to really make a difference to those living with dementia and their carers.

“Memory Walk is a great opportunity for the whole family to spend a day out together whilst also raising money for such an important cause. I would encourage everyone to sign-up today.”

Local Dementia Friends Champion Roy Broad said:
“There are over 5000 people in Shropshire currently living with dementia and a staggering one in three people aged over 65 will develop the condition.

“Attingham Park is a beautiful place to visit and enjoy a one or three mile sponsored walk while you help to make a difference by supporting the Alzheimer’s Society. Everyone is welcome including children and dogs.”

The Shrewsbury Memory Walk on the 22 September starts with registration from 10:00 a.m. and will be hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire’s Jim Hawkins, with lots of fun for all the family.
