Boccia Finals on Friday

Eight teams from across the county will be competing for honours in a special sporting event on Friday (25th Oct) when the Shropshire Boccia Tournament Finals are held in Shrewsbury.

The game of Boccia is similar to the French game of Boules and is regularly played in village halls and community centres by people of all ages, including pensioner clubs and those with disabilities and is promoted by the Preventative Services Team of Shropshire Rural Community Council as part of an on-going initiative to promote activities for older people.

Heats have taken place across the county and finalist teams consisting of team members aged from 40 to 90 years of age will compete for trophies and medals at Shrewsbury College of Arts & Technology on Friday morning this week. (25th Oct)

The tournament has been organised by Shropshire RCC and event organiser Susie Hancock said: “Students from the colleges around the county including Ludlow and Oswestry have helped at the heats by officiating with registration, refereeing, scoring and serving refreshments, so it was very impressive to see the youngsters working in such a professional manner and also for them to see older people enjoying competitive sport.”

Spectators wishing to attend the final on Friday morning should register with Susie Hancock at Shropshire RCC on 01743 342160.
