BESST Breakfast Event Going For Gold

A regional network dedicated to sharing environmental best practice to help improve business competitiveness is inviting firms from across the county to attend a special event which will play host to a renowned guest speaker.

The Business Environmental Support Scheme for Telford (BESST) is inviting organisations who are considering improving their environmental performance to a special event on 26th February, which will welcome guest speaker Peter Braithwaite, Head of Sustainability at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The event, which is being held in partnership with the Marches Environmental Technological Network (metnet), will take place between 8.00am and 10.30am at The Thomas Telford Dining Hall, Telford Campus, University of Wolverhampton and spaces are filling up fast.  Guest speaker Peter Braithwaite (Chair at Sustainability West Midlands) was responsible for fulfilling the Olympics’ sustainability legacy and will talk about how he and his team achieved new sustainability standards for a project of that size, and how they raised the bar for the industry as a whole.

Jaclyn Kitson, BESST Network Coordinator, explained: “Since we launched 13 years ago, our breakfast events have proven extremely popular with our members, so we’re extending this opportunity to the wider business community and inviting them to join us too and sample a real flavour of what they can expect by becoming a member of the BESST network.

“Alongside a number of speakers from the region, we’re delighted to welcome Peter Braithwaite to the event where he’ll talk about his role at the Games and describe how sustainability targets were employed to reduce its overall impact on the environment.  The event is in partnership with metnet and will see the organisation hold an exhibition where a number of its member will showcase its services so guests are welcome to stay on afterwards to view the demonstration.

“Spaces are naturally limited so I’d urge anyone interested in attending to get in touch to reserve their seat either by calling 01952 567 578, or emailing [email protected] ,” concluded Jaclyn.

Business Environment Support Scheme Telford (BESST) works in partnership with private and public sector businesses to help improve their environmental performance, in order to boost competitiveness and reduce their impact on the environment. BESST is a best practice sharing network, where members can share new ideas and exchange advice on ways to improve environmental efficiency. The group also aims to educate members about environmental awareness, and ways they can implement strategies to become more efficient.
