Poker comes to Shropshire

Shropshire has already got some wild and wonderful sporting events coming up at the end of summer. There's the Loton Hall Speed Hill Climb motoring event at the end of August, and the beginning of the football season for our very own Shrewsbury Town FC too.

However, sport of a different kind has begun at a pub in Whitchurch with the arrival of the Nuts Poker League at the Bulls Head Inn.

National poker

The Nuts Poker League is an organisation based in the UK that operates on a national scale and offers a forum for amateur players to perfect their poker playing skills in a fun and friendly environment.

The league is open for all adults and encourages an active participation in this widely growing game.

Furthermore, as it is a national league, players will be competing in the hope of making their way to the finals which are being held at the G Casino in Coventry with an impressive prize pool of £10,000.

To find out more about joining, visit the Nuts Poker League website where there is a FAQ detailing the league's activities.

And if you're seeking a little practice before joining, you can always brush up on your poker skills at Betsafe where there are a range of poker games to test your abilities. The site even includes an exclusive poker school with a range of tips and advice for the amateur player so that you can hit the ground running!

Poker in a pub

Although we may usually think of poker as being played in darkly lit saloons, the great British pub is the perfect environment for a relaxing game of poker.

And the Bulls Head Inn in lovely Whitchurch is a great place to showcase the best in the UK's upcoming poker scene. There are already a whole host of players who have made their presence felt on the local circuit in their bid to reach the end of season playoffs.

The pub offers a warm and traditional backdrop to the intense poker action with an inviting atmosphere for all to get involved in some high-stakes gaming!

The poker nights take place on Monday and Thursday nights, and all players can feel the benefit of a wide selection of draught beers, wines and spirits to help fuel the fun.

Should you need a little respite from the intense gaming activity the pub offers a picture-perfect beer garden that takes full advantage of the warmer summer months.

And with the poker reaching increasing levels of competitiveness as the playoffs approach, it's best to get in there now and experience the very best of poker in Shropshire!
