M&S Meole Brace Foodhall Announces The Shrewsbury Ark as Charity of the Year

Marks & Spencer employees of the new Meole Brace Foodhall, which is due to open on 5th August, have teamed up with their colleagues at M&S Shrewsbury to support The Shrewsbury Ark as their 2015 Charity of the Year.

The news comes as part of the new store’s commitment to work closely with local communities as part of Plan A, the pledge to become the world’s most sustainable retailer.

Employees at the new Foodhall and the town centre store will each be hosting a 12 month fundraising campaign for the charity, with a range of activities and events, including sponsored walks and runs, bag packs, cake bakes and raffles.

The Shrewsbury Ark is an independently-run day centre, seeking to help and support some of the most disadvantaged members of the community. The charity provides a safe and welcoming environment where all individuals can find refuge in times of distress. It offers practical help and support to those in need, as well as advice, guidance and encouragement to those who wish to make positive changes in their lives.

Store Manager, David Hughes, said: “Each year, M&S stores across the country make a commitment to working with local causes for the good of the immediate community. With our new store opening in just a few weeks, it was important for us to choose a local cause that means something to the employees and people in the area.

“Both the town centre and the new Foodhall teams felt that The Shrewsbury Ark was such a worthy cause as it works at the heart of the community, helping homeless and vulnerable people get back on their feet. For that reason they were an obvious choice for our support this year. We look forward to working with The Shrewsbury Ark for many months to come and hope that our customers will get behind the fundraising activities that we have lined up throughout the year.”

M&S works closely with local communities as part of its Plan A commitments, the company’s pledge to become the world’s most sustainable major retailer. Each year, M&S stores around the country select one charity to support for the full year, hosting fundraising events with customers and staff.
