Pottery painting studio ready for Christmas

Shrewsbury’s pottery painting studio is celebrating Christmas with an exciting expansion.

Splat n Splodge opened in the Parade Shopping Centre in St Mary’s Place earlier this year and has just moved into larger premises almost opposite its original unit in the lower ground floor of the arcade.

Kelly Wood, owner of the studio, said that she was really pleased to have secured a bigger space, with extended facilities, for customers to work from.

“We have become established as a fun destination for adults and youngsters alike and it is great to have more room for activities,” she explained.

“Everyone seems to love visiting the studio – they can express their creativity by using paint and craft materials. Our personalised presents are very popular at this time of year, with children using their hand and footprints to make reindeer pictures on baubles, plates and mugs for parents and grandparents,” she said.

The studio allows children – or adults - to choose a piece of pottery, such as a tile or a teapot, and decorate it in a range of colours. The item is then glazed and fired by Kelly and collected later by the customer.

“It is really enjoyable and there has been a great response to the new business since we launched this year,” said former crèche leader Kelly who has always loved anything involving craft and creativity.

She hosts children’s parties at Splat and Splodge and is also runs crochet, knitting, sewing and embroidery sessions.

In addition she now makes ceramic bunting, buttons and Christmas decorations, with festive stock proving a hit.
