Sunday Car Parking Offer in Shrewsbury is ‘Just the Ticket’

Shrewsbury BID has announced a series of car parking offers for 2015 to encourage visitors to ‘See Shrewsbury on Sundays’. The three month initiative will help back businesses operating in Shrewsbury town centre.

Thanks to the deal negotiated by Shrewsbury BID with Shropshire Council, visitors will be able to park all day for the price of one hour’s car parking in any of the Council’s town centre car parks, which can be as little as 60p.

The incentive will run from the first Sunday in January through to the end of March and has been introduced to attract more shoppers, diners and visitors into the town centre during the post Christmas sales period. It sits alongside NCP’s existing Sunday car parking tariff in Wyle Cop, which is just £1.

Des Walker, Owner of Pomona Grocery on Castle Gates said: “The cost of parking is important to people deciding to visit the town centre so we are delighted that people will be able to park for so little on a Sunday in the new year, a time which can be quieter for shops, eateries and attractions. The incentives make Shrewsbury cheaper to visit than Telford town centre and other nearby shopping destinations, which is great news.”

Councillor Claire Wild, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Shropshire Council added: “By working in partnership with Shrewsbury BID on car parking initiatives we are able to make Shrewsbury town centre an even more attractive place for people to visit and stay for the day. This is part of a wider plan for car parking and transport infrastructure projects which we are working to deliver with Shrewsbury BID in 2015.”

Discounted car parking will be available at the following car parks:

Abbey Foregate                                               Raven Meadows Multi Storey

St Austin’s Street                                             Bridge Street

St Julian’s Friars                                              Frankwell Main
