Army Cadets Scuba Dive

A squad of 24 Army cadets from Shrewsbury have taken their first ever Scuba Dive at The Quarry pool, accompanied by instructors from the Shrewsbury Sub Aqua Club.

Aged 12 to 17, the cadets are under the command of SSI Jason Walters, B Coy Shooting Officer. For the first time in the history of the Club, the cadets  have undertaken an introductory  Scuba Diving course,  specially designed for them by the Shrewsbury Club in line with BSAC guidelines.

Over a period of two weeks each cadet has undertaken a detailed briefing session, followed by a 30 minute taster session in the pool. The cadets were kitted up and familiarised with the necessary Scuba gear provided by the club. Their dedicated instructor then introduced them to Scuba diving, reaching a depth of nearly 4 metres.

Ange Kitson, training officer at the Club said ” Shrewsbury Sub Aqua Club is an active and growing scuba diving and social Club. We welcome  anyone who wants to try this exciting sport at The Quarry Pool, and have courses available (the next one in February) for those who wish to train with us. We are delighted to have shared our enthusiasm with these Cadets as a key part of their training”

SSI Jason Walters said “ My thanks to Shrewsbury Sub Aqua Club for giving the cadets this opportunity to try something new. We are the first cadet unit in the county to do it and they were buzzing about it all the way home”.
