Shropshire Company First To Sign Up To Staff Car Scheme

A Shropshire domiciliary care company has become a pioneer in developing a scheme that will ensure care staff will always be able to reach customers.

Carewatch (Mid Shropshire) has entered into a partnership with a new car hire company so staff can always hire a car, even at short notice, if their car breaks down or they do not own a car themselves.

The deal, believed to be the first of its kind, means staff at Carewatch, based at Stafford Park, Telford, will be able to hire a car on a short term or long term basis from Cash Car Hire Ltd at a reduced price.

Steve Harris, director of Carewatch (Mid Shropshire), said this was a huge benefit to their clients.

He said: “I have been looking for something like this for a while.

“In the past we have had problems with staff not being able to get to clients’ homes if their car breaks down or trained care staff have felt they cannot do the job properly until they own a car.

“This gives our staff the peace of mind that they will not be letting any clients down and for our clients it means they will still have their regular support worker even if something does go wrong.

“It is a huge boost and will benefit everyone involved.”

Mr Harris said it means his company, which provides care to people across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, Staffordshire and the West Midlands, will look at recruiting people who hold a driving licence but cannot afford a vehicle.

He added: “Cash Car Hire Ltd have never done this before, they usually only hire cars to people who pay cash up front, so this is a huge coup for us.

“Our staff will get very competitive rates not available on the high street and through this scheme there is access to an unlimited number of cars, so it doesn’t matter if five members of staff all break down on the same day.”

John Norwood, managing director from Cash Car Hire Ltd, said: “We are pleased to be able to offer this scheme to Carewatch.

“It could make a huge difference to the company itself and for us we are happy to be involved in making the lives of their staff easier.

“This is not something we had considered doing before because of the nature of our business but we could work with companies across the UK as a result.”
