Stylish street service for bistro anniversary

Staff from a Shropshire bar and restaurant brought a new meaning to the phrase ‘street food’ recently.

Waitresses from House of the Rising Sun in Shrewsbury delivered free tasting platters of sushi to local businesses to celebrate a milestone anniversary.

Sam Taylor, owner of the Butcher Row establishment, explained that he wanted to do something a little different to mark its first birthday.

“We made a huge investment in this enterprise when we launched in 2013, transforming a town centre premises and creating 15 full and part time jobs.

“We also took something of a risk as House of the Rising Sun was the first ‘global dining’ restaurant in Shropshire so wanted to mark our successful year in style.

“There has been tremendous support from private customers and local businesses - it has been an incredible time - and particularly pleasing for me to bring something different to the town as I was born and bred in Shrewsbury.

“Staff here wanted to say thank you to local people who have supported us and who have really enjoyed our ‘east meets west’ fusion style of dining,” he said.

Regular customer Judy Bourne, manager of Monks estate agents, added: “The restaurant is a real asset to the town and we always take our business clients there for working lunches as the atmosphere is relaxed and the wide range of food provides a choice for all tastes.

“House of the Rising Sun was also voted best overall in the recent Restaurant Safari that we helped organise in the town.”
