Success at Great West Midlands Care Awards!

Two carers at Allcare Shropshire Ltd, Pontesbury, Shrewsbury, were recently triumphant at the Great West Midlands Care Awards!

Lucy Butcher and Michael Hannah were both nominated and shortlisted for categories at the annual awards ceremony.

Lucy, who has worked at Allcare Shropshire Ltd for 7 years, was in the Home Care Worker category - which recognises the significant role of the home care worker in consistently providing a high quality standard of care for people living in their own homes.  She said "I very much love my job, being nominated made me feel like a winner already and I am very proud of where I am today."

Michael, who has been with the company for 1 year, was shortlisted for the Care Newcomer Award, an award that seeks to acknowledge and celebrate a new member of staff to the care sector.

Michael said "I was shocked and excited to learn of my nomination.  It is refreshing to feel appreciated, I love my job and for the first time in my life I can say I look forward to going to work.  I hope with this nomination and hard work I can further my career in care and make people proud of the person I have become."

They attended their interviews back in September in front of a judging panel.

Over 400 people attended the awards ceremony held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull.  Staff from Allcare Shropshire Ltd went along to show their support for Lucy & Michael and were over the moon when they were both announced as winners!!

The judges said about them both:

"Lucy both demonstrates and facilitates the highest standards in care provision; promoting people’s independence and encouraging personalisation. She impressed the judges with her wealth of knowledge and her sheer dedication to the role."

"Michael's passion for care shone through.  Michael put's the service user at the heart of everything he does and his enthusiasm is infectious.  An asset to the sector and a very worthy winner!"

The Great West Midlands Care Awards are part of the Great British Care Awards, a series of 9 regional awards celebrating excellence across the care sector.  The purpose of the awards is to promote best practice within both home care and care homes and pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field.

Allcare Shropshire Ltd are no strangers to winning awards; they have been finalists in the Great West Midlands Care Awards for the last 5 years, winning in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and in 2010 they went on to win the Care Employer of the Year (less than 250 employees) at the Great British Care Awards.

As both Lucy & Michael were regional winners this means they will go forward to the national awards ceremony -  The Great British Care Awards which brings together all of the regional winners and one overall winner will be picked for each of the categories.  The gala dinner awards ceremony will be held in Birmingham in June 2015.

Manager Wendy Beesley said "I am extremely pleased for Lucy and Michael, they thoroughly deserve their awards for all the hard work and dedication they put into their jobs day in and day out.

In 2010 Allcare won the national award for Care Employer of the Year (small business), but I think the awards for the care workers are what this occasion is really about.

As an organisation we are proud to be part of these awards, we feel it highlights the essential and dedicated work all care workers carry out."
