Festive Song Hits the Right Notes to Star in Shrewsbury Christmas Video

Shrewsbury Business Improvement District (BID) has found its Christmas star whose musical masterpiece will accompany this year’s video to promote the town’s festive offer.

Gareth Rhys Jones, a 34-year-old guitar and piano teacher from Coton Hill in Shrewsbury, was selected by a panel of judges for his uplifting and catchy piece ‘This is Your Christmas’.

Gareth said: “I am so pleased to have been chosen for the Christmas video and to be involved in such a great production for the town. After enjoying the summer video, I saw this competition and jumped at the chance to put my music forward.

“I am now looking forward to getting into the studio and beginning the final production where my music will be put to the video scenes.”

The panel of judges for the competition were Maureen Powell Davies, Director of Music at Shrewsbury High School, Craig Reeves, Marketing Manager at Theatre Severn, Aaron Child, filmographer and producer and of the ‘Christmas in Shrewsbury’ video and Kirsten Henly, Shrewsbury BID Manager.

As well as creating the musical accompaniment to the film, Gareth will appear in one of the scenes and will receive the one-off chance to produce his own piece of music professionally.

Kirsten Henly, BID Manager, said: “We had a great response to the competition with lots of creative and talented musicians sending us their jingles. Gareth’s piece was a favourite for all the judges. We all felt he captured Christmas in his piece and it was perfect for our Shrewsbury Christmas story.”
