A brush with nature: Artist-in-residence lands at The Follies

Hawkstone Park Follies has appointed local artist Sarah Evans as its very own Artist-in-residence. For her firstassignment, Sarah will be capturing all the beauty and drama of the historic park as the first glimpses of the autumn season emerge.
Sarah specialises in the art of silk painting and also works in acrylics, water colours and mixed media. She’ll be setting up camp among the various beauty spots and ancient follies of the park, painting the spectacular scenery, trees and wildlife.
A series of workshops and taster sessions are also in the pipeline, plus an autumn Sketch Safari where visitors can tour the park with guidance on drawing the various landscapes. Sarah has a background in art therapy and has taught at schools, hospices and military bases all over the world. Developing projects which engage the local community will be a key focus of the role.
Commenting on her new appointment, Sarah says “To work within such an inspiring setting as the Follies is a wonderful opportunity. I’m looking forward to getting to know the visitors, sharing my work and encouraging them to get creative”.
Park Manager Caroline Wellon adds, “Sarah is brimming with enthusiasm and we are delighted to be welcoming her as our Artist-in-residence. As well as sharing her artwork in the park,we’re also going to be displaying pieces in our visitor centre, beginning with autumn scenes”.
