Idyllic retreat for county carers

One of the Shropshire’s most idyllic rural retreats has become the latest venue to offer support to the vast number of family carers in the county.

Tickwood Care Farm, situated in the grounds of Tickwood Hall, near Much Wenlock is a purpose-built compact log cabin set in woodlands at The Wyke.

The centre has joined in the I-Care Card scheme which is run by the Carers Support Service of Shropshire Rural Community Council and attracts discounts for carers from nearly 50 businesses and services across the region.

Gail Bonella-Foster of Shropshire RCC said: “I have lived locally for many years and know the area well, so this situation offers a fantastic respite opportunity, fully self contained and in a beautiful setting, yet close to the amenities of Ironbridge and Much Wenlock.

“We are very grateful to Tickwood Care Farm for joining so many other people in offering support to the Carers Support Service, which provides real benefits to many of the army of over 30,000 carers in the county who look after family or friends.”

One of the first people to view the location was family carer Denise Angus, of Monkmoor, Shrewsbury, who added: “I am a real ‘town girl’ at heart but I think this is the ideal place for a totally relaxing break in peace and tranquillity away from everything and I will certainly be looking to book a visit.”
