Hive in the swing of summer

Youth arts charity and community venue the Hive, has released it's summer programme of activity. There's plenty of culture and entertainment on offer for people of all ages, with summer holiday workshops for young people a particular highlight as always!

The summer holiday workshops commence on Wednesday July 23 with a Film-making masterclass. Taking place for ages 8-13 years, it willl run between 10am and 3:30pm. Participants will be able to learn about story development, gaining hands-on experience in all stages of film production. Places cost £20 per young person.

Shrewsbury Youth Theatre are presenting two drama workshops this year, one running for a week and starting on Monday July 28; the other taking place for two days on July 24 and 25. The Play In a Week workshop is for ages 8-13 and costs just £75 for the full week. The two-day workshop, introduced for the first time this year, costs £40 for the two days and is aimed at those aged 14-18 years. Both drama workshops are expected to sell out in advance!

The final summer holiday workshop for young people will be a stop-frame animation workshop on August 5. Places cost £20 and young people involved will explore various techniques to create an animation in a day.

Habib Malik-Mansell of the Hive said "Our summer workshops are always popular every year - but that's not all that is taking place! We have just hosted a couple of special one-off events, including the two film screenings that tied-in with the Shrewsbury Food Festival for example."

The Hive has a full schedule of stunning art exhibitions within their gallery space, currently presenting images by the Shropshire Photographic Society, who are showcasing an eclectic mix of images - many of which are for sale.

Alyson Lanning, Director of the Hive added "Of course, there's also the usual array of other activities such as the Shrewsbury Jazz network concerts, who offer jazz fans a Tribute to Cal Tjader this Saturday, July 12. It promises to be another evening which is not to be missed!"
