Bargain Lunch, Big Flavour At Romolo

We are planning a very special dinner party for my Nan's 70th and knowing that all the food talk that comes with planning a menu would make us ravenous we headed out for lunch to discuss it in style. It was another gloriously sunny day on Friday so we chose Romolo the Italian restaurant and cocktail lounge next to the river on Victoria Quay.

I've been wanting to try Romolo £5 lunch for a while and I wasn't disappointed, the price is low but the taste is high. We sat outside across from the river watching the world go by, the building offered up precious shade from the midday heat.
There were three £5 options on the lunch menu. I enjoyed impanate di pesce, a beautifully light fish cake in breadcrumbs served with salad and shoestring chips and Trevor tucked into penne alla genovese a generous bowl of bright pesto pasta. The third option was a beef dish also sounded very tempting.

Feeling quite smug at getting such a bargain meal and not wanting to leave the lovely spot next to the river we ordered coffee and dessert so we could linger there for longer and they were sublime.
I had a mountain of moist sticky toffee pudding and ice cream, swimming in unctuous toffee sauce. The dark cake was big enough to share but I did managed to finish it myself.  Trevor had a beautifully presented fruity pavlova with summer berries and cream.

The service at Romolo was great too, the bill was prepared by the time I made the short walk from the river to the bar because they saw me coming inside. I only got a quick glimpse at the interior décor which was bright and inviting and we will definitely be back for dinner to check it out properly.

Romolo lunch menu is available Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 4.30pm
