Shrewsbury residents recycling more plastic

New figures just out show the amount of plastic collected from homes in Shrewsbury has shot up by 25%, since the kerbside collection of plastic pots, tubs and trays was introduced.

For a while now we've been collecting plastic bottles, but there was clearly a huge public appetite for more types of plastic packaging to be collected.  So it was great news that (working in partnership with Veolia) we have been able to enhance the service.  Now (since October 2012) you can put margarine tubs, yoghurt pots, fruit punnets, and food trays in your recycling box, along with your plastic bottles and the good news is this has resulted in a big increase in the amount of plastic being recycled.

In fact its gone up by 25% which works out as hundreds of tonnes more plastic being kept out of landfill and transformed back into useful items instead.  So well done and thank you to all the residents in Shrewsbury have embraced this new scheme with such enthusiasm.  It’s easy to recycle your plastic – simply wash, squash and pop it in your recycling box along with your cans.

One bit of feedback alot of residents have told us they are recycling so much plastic now that they cant fit it all in their box!  Not a problem - we are happy to supply extra recycling boxes, just give us a ring on 0345 678 9007 or email [email protected] and we'll get one dropped of at your house faster than you can say plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays.
