How to stop Junk Mail

It is estimated that in Shropshire around 50 million individual items or some 2,200 tonnes of unwanted mail gets delivered to homes every year.

With UK consumers generating over £25 billion worth of postal sales per year, there is clearly an economic case for marketing by post.  However, with thousands of tonnes of largely unwanted mail never even being read and just creating extra household waste, which costs taxpayers money to get reprocessed, it’s understandable why some take a different view.

Thats why we have the Mailing Preference Service (MPS) - a voluntary initiative run by the Direct Marketing Association, to support your right to choose the mail you want.  MPS allows you to make your choice known – so you stop getting so much junk mail.  Its completely free to register.  Simply by phone – 0845 703 4599 or register online via www.mpsonline.org.uk or email  [email protected]

Although residents can recycle all this junk mail including free papers, leaflets, fliers and envelopes through the Councils recycling collection scheme, it would be even better not to produce so much waste in the first place.  The MPS about giving people a choice.  So if you want to choose to waste less and shrink your carbon footprint sign up now via www.mpsonline.org.uk
