Urban Folk supports Hive appeal

An independent gift shop in Shrewsbury has chosen to support a local charity's unique appeal for surplus fixtures and fittings. The Hive, a youth arts organisation delivering outreach projects and creative opportunities for young people, recently launched the appeal as a fresh approach to fund-raising - and Urban Folk of Grope Lane responded!

The unusual appeal acts as a new and alternative way of raising funds for the charity's work and the Hive has opened up the initiative for businesses of any size to get involved with. Surplus shop fixtures and fittings can be donated to the Hive, enabling the charity to then sell them on and raise valuable funds for continuing its work with young people across Shropshire.

Businesses get to clear stock and unwanted items from storerooms, without the need or hassle of taking it to a skip themselves - and items are ultimately saved from landfill, making the scheme eco-friendly and kind on the environment too.

The Hive is able to raise funds to support its work and the end outcome, is that local young people benefit - therefore, it is a win-win situation all around.

The Hive works across Shropshire, delivering outreach projects and providing access to the arts where young people need them most - projects help young people to develop new skills, increase their self-esteem, make new friends and go on to make even greater achievements in life.

Habib Malik-Mansell of the Hive said "I'm really grateful to Lauren at Urban Folk for embracing the appeal and helping us to raise funds in this unique way. It acts as a further way in which the Hive can work in partnership with businesses in the town to meet shared aims. Lauren had some stock which was surplus to her needs; and she can also be happy knowing that her actions have supported young people."

Urban Folk is a small but perfectly formed shop situated in the heart of Shrewsbury on Grope Lane. It stockes a variety of beautiful items and ranges including handmade gifts from local artists, plus Orla Kiely and more.

Businesses or individuals with any surplus shop fittings and fixtures which they would like to discuss donating, are encouraged to contact Habib at the Hive by emailing [email protected] or calling 01743 234970.
