Free lullabies workshop for parents

Acclaimed folk singer Jackie Oates will be running a free singing workshop for parents of children under five ahead of her forthcoming performance at the Hive in Shrewsbury next month. Parents are encouraged not to miss out on this unique opportunity!

Jackie, who is about to release an album of lullabies, will host an afternoon workshop at the Hive on April 28th before her evening concert, which has been organised by the team behind the successful Shrewsbury Folk Festival.

The one-off event, which will run between 3pm and 3.45pm, is limited to a maximum of 20 parents and their children and best of all, it is free for families to attend. Jackie will talk about the songs and singing, coaching participating parents in the art of lullaby singing. Children will be welcome to attend the workshop too.

The new archive of lullabies collected by Jackie will eventually be lodged in the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library at Cecil Sharp House in London, the home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society.

Shrewsbury Folk Festival Director Alan Surtees, speaking of the workshops said "This free lullaby workshop is a great opportunity for parents to enjoy a fun activity with their children. Jackie is a master of her craft and it will be an excellent afternoon for all involved."

Parents must register in advance for the workshop by contacting The Hive on 01743 234970 or by emailing [email protected] - alternatively visit in person at 5 Belmont, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY1 1TE.
