Young hopefuls showcase Shrewsbury's talent.

Young hopefuls showed judges what they were made of in the hopes of joining the line-up of an upcoming show packed with musical entertainment.

About 50 talented youngsters, aged between 16 and 21 years old, turned up to audition for a place in the ensemble that will support the leading performers in the star-studded West End Story, which will be coming to Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury on July 1st.

The musical theatre-themed show will feature live music, comedy and drama from the nation’s favourite musicals.

The show will feature acts such as former Celebrity Big Brother winner Alex Reid, Ciaran O’Driscoll – star of this year’s 'The Voice of Ireland', West End singer Cici Howells, Trinity Theatre’s Nancy Laura Coard, Lucy Edge and other seasoned professionals including Michael Jenkins, also producer of the show.

The auditions, held at Theatre Severn last Friday, left the judges spoilt for judge, having to whittle down the hopefuls to just 15.

Michael Jenkins, from Gobowen, who judged the singers, said: "'I was absolutely thrilled at the turnout and blown away at the level of talent on show. People had travelled from across the county to attend the auditions and we were spoilt for choice.

"Throughout the evening we heard songs from classic shows like Carousel, all the way through to current West End hits like, 'I'm not my father's son' from Kinky Boots'.

"It was refreshing and exciting to see up and coming performers audition, and it's clear that they have a very bright future ahead of them.

"After much deliberation, we have finally selected 15 of the auditionees to join the already star-studded cast of West End Story, and rehearsals start very soon."
