Shropshire artist behind delightful Shropshire Vintage Show Christmas Cards!

For 15 years Shropshire artist Graham Andrews has been bringing some of the county’s classic vehicles to life and they’ve been posted to hundreds of members of the Mid Shropshire Vintage Club in time for Christmas.

Graham, who lives near Shrewsbury, is himself a vehicle enthusiast, but instead of owning any vehicles, he adds his natural artistic flair and paints them instead.

He met the then Chairman of the Vintage Club, Derek Sheedy, while is he was selling his art at one of their shows. Derek, a club member for over 30 years, was so impressed, he asked Graham if they could utilise his talent.

The partnership was born and Graham has been painting a vintage vehicle in a festive scene ever since. The prints are then turned into Christmas cards by Craven Design and Print Ltd of Craven Arms and mailed to all the members, partners and friends of the club, with details of the forthcoming Shropshire Family Vintage Show, which many of them attend to showcase their own vintage gems.

Graham said: “Derek is a tractor nut and he originally asked me if I wanted to paint one for him. Of course I accepted and luckily he loved it, showed it to rest of the committee and they thought I could do something for them and I have been doing it ever since!

“Derek always comes to me with the idea and then we try to give it a mid-Shropshire theme. So one year I painted Haughmond Abbey, another Church Stretton. This year's scene includes a Land Rover with the Wrekin in the background.

“We chose the Land Rover because they are going out of production and have become gold dust.”

Club Member, Derek Sheedy, said: “Graham is a very talented Shropshire artist, who we are pleased to have worked with for so long. Graham’s art on our Christmas card has become synonymous with the club and show.

“We send it to our members now with the entry form for the upcoming show, which next year will be held on Saturday, 30 June and Sunday, 1 July, where literally hundreds of all types of vintage vehicles from cars, to buses, to military vehicles and camper vans will be on show.”

Graham will have a stall at the 2018 show at the Greenhous West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury from 9am each day. If anyone would like to commission him they can visit www.damestudios.com
