Santa to visit Crossbar’s popular festive holiday clubs next week

Father Christmas will visit a host of festive holiday courses run by a Shropshire sports coaching company next week to give the children who attend a gift.

Crossbar Coaching Education in Sport, renowned for its popular clubs for youngsters around the county, has come up with an exciting itinerary for its Christmas-themed sports and dance courses.

They are also running a series of popular festive-themed holiday clubs in aid of the Crossbar Foundation, with the proceeds used to help support a number of community projects in deprived areas of Shropshire.

Jamie Haynes, Crossbar’s Head of Education in Sport, said: “We’re really excited about the Christmas clubs as it’s such a special time of the year, so it's going to be a really fun week.

“Santa will be attending all of our holiday clubs and courses to give a present to every child who attends.

"Luke Hughes, our holiday club co-ordinator, has drawn up a fun itinerary, which will include visits from Bubble Football and X-Strike’s mobile arena to some of the venues.

“We had great numbers attending the holiday clubs during October half-term, between 400 and 500 children each day, and the proceeds go back into the community, as our whole ethos is with our community for our community.”

Crossbar will run multi-sports courses at Shrewsbury’s London Road Sports Centre from Monday, December 18 to Friday, December 22, with soccer schools and dance camps at the same venue for the first three days of the week.

Telford’s Lawley Primary School will host a soccer school from Monday to Wednesday of the week before Christmas, with multi-sports on Thursday and Friday.

There’s also a new venue for Crossbar’s Telford street dance club, which will now be held from December 18-20 at MD Performing Arts in Hortonwood.

The holiday clubs will operate between December 18-22 at Pontesbury Primary School together with Telford schools Hollinswood, Ladygrove, Old Park and Redhill, with clubs also held at Shrewsbury’s Greenfields Primary School and Broseley C of E Primary School from December 19-22.

Jamie added: “The soccer schools and multi-sports courses continue to be popular while we are pleased that numbers are going up all the time for the dance courses. Poppy Mansfield continues to come up with great ideas for the Shrewsbury dance course and we had record numbers there in October.

"We’re also delighted to have linked up with MD Performing Arts and to have moved our Telford street dance course to their professional dance studio.”

The Shrewsbury Food Hub and Wenlock Spring, long-time backers of Crossbar, will again be supporting the Christmas programme of events.

All holiday courses, which operate from 9am to 3pm each day, are open to boys and girls between the ages of five and 13, with youngsters aged 12 and 13 eligible to attend as Crossbar Young Leaders.
