Ride+Stride: 9th September 2017

What is Ride+Stride?

Visit unique historic buildings, see beautiful countryside, get some exercise and have fun with the family!

Ride+Stride is a sponsored bike ride or walk in which people all over England walk or cycle between churches, exploring and enjoying the countryside from Cornwall to Northumberland. The money they raise helps to save historic churches, chapels and meeting houses for future generations by helping to fund urgent repairs and occasionally the installation of modern facilities.

Supported by The National Churches Trust and in partnership with county based local Historic Churches Trusts, Ride+Stride opens the doors to some of England’s most rare and unusual churches, chapels and meeting houses.

With thousands to choose from, there is no shortage of fantastic churches, chapels and meeting houses to visit and support. You can find a church bell (in the tree) or a stone hedgehog (on the door) at St Nicholas’ Church in Barfrestone, Kent. Look for carved pigs feeding in Little Malvern Priory in Worcestershire (on a monk’s arm rest). Buy stamps or send a letter in the Church post office at All Saints Church in Sheepy Magna, Leicestershire. Or even visit an art exhibition at Holy Trinity Church in Leeds.

In 2016, Bear Grylls, Author, Television presenter and Chief Scout commented: “Many historic churches, chapels and meeting houses are battling to survive. Roofs leak, ancient timbers rot and medieval stonework crumbles. Now you can help by joining the Ride+Stride adventure, a sponsored bike ride or walk discovering beautiful churches, which also raises money for their repair and preservation.”

Shropshire

From 2007 to 2015 SHCT has given £575,680 in grants to help our local churches, chapels and meeting houses survive and so remain open for local residents and visitors to worship in often-unique surroundings.

From 2008 until 2016, through the efforts of those taking part in Shropshire’s Ride+Stride has raised £206,416.

2017’s event takes place on Saturday 09 September.   Your local church, chapel and meeting house has all the details necessary for you to take part and raise much needed funds.
