Multi-sports club launched in Shrewsbury for children with disabilities

A weekly multi-sports club for children with disabilities and their siblings has been launched in Shrewsbury - with local youngsters invited to get involved.

The SEN Multi-Sports Club is run by the Little Rascals Foundation, a local charity which supports children with disabilities and their families.

It takes place each Monday evening, between 5.30-6.30pm, at the London Road Sports Centre, with the sessions delivered by qualified coach Chris Bebb, a left leg amputee who uses a prosthetic leg.

The children involved with the club are able to draw inspiration from how much Chris has achieved in sport despite his disability.

He delivers a number of different sports to the children, including football, tag rugby, tennis, kwik cricket and dodgeball.

Ben Wootton, a trustee of the Little Rascals Foundation, said: "After gaining feedback from parents we realised there was a great need for further clubs and activities for children with disabilities outside of school.

"These sessions help to keep the children active, give them chance to socialise with other children, help them to learn new skills and, most of all, are great fun.

"Chris is an excellent coach and really works hard to adapt the sessions to meet the needs of all the children who attend.”

Chris, who enjoys delivering the sessions for youngsters, added: “I’ve had a passion to play sport all my life, not only recreational but also competitively. Due to my disability, playing competitively was always going to be hard, but I didn’t let it stop me.

"My passion is to help those who are also disabled to get past the barrier of feeling they can’t achieve their goals. Through the Little Rascals Foundation SEN Multi-Sports Club, I can start to do that.

"I want to build the children’s confidence and help them to understand that they can get what they want in life regardless of their disability. I strongly believe that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and that is the ethos I try and promote during these sessions.”
