Crossbar launch recruitment drive for cadets to enjoy fun school holiday clubs

Shropshire children have the chance to enjoy a fun introduction to life in the military during next week’s half-term break thanks to a county charity.

The Crossbar Foundation has again teamed up with Crossbar Coaching Education in Sport to put together a fun-packed programme of sports and dance clubs together with holiday clubs around the county.

The theme for the Foundation’s holiday clubs, to be held at eight Shropshire primary schools, is Crossbar Cadets, with bookings pouring in from parents keen for their youngsters to be active during the holidays.

Jamie Haynes, Crossbar’s head of education in sport, said: “We’re always keen to introduce new and exciting themes for our popular holiday clubs and we’re looking forward to inviting children to join the Crossbar Cadets next week.

"There will be lots of team building exercises with the emphasis on being part of something. There will also be activities like obstacle courses, den building, tug of war and a fancy dress party, while the children will have the chance to move up the ranks, to go from corporal to captain to sergeant.

"We’re linking in with local cadets and have also been in touch with military bases around Telford and Shrewsbury, so there will be some Army vehicles at the courses for the children to have a look at and sit in.

"X-Strike Arena, with a military style nerf guns game, and Telford Bubble Football will also be joining us to add to the fun.”

The holiday clubs will run from Monday, February 19 to Friday, February 23 between 9am and 3pm at Shrewsbury’s Greenfields Primary School, Pontesbury Primary School, Broseley C of E Primary School, as well as in Telford at Randlay, Hollinswood, Redhill, Old Park and Captain Webb Primary School, a new venue.

Crossbar will run its ever popular multi-sports courses at Shrewsbury’s London Road Sports Centre from next Monday to Friday, with soccer schools and dance camps at the same venue for the first three days of the week.
Telford’s Lawley Primary School will host a soccer school from Monday to Wednesday, with multi-sports on Thursday and Friday. Crossbar’s Telford street dance club will be held from February 19-21 at MD Performing Arts in Hortonwood.

All holiday courses are open to boys and girls between the ages of five and 13, with youngsters aged 12 and 13 eligible to attend as Crossbar Young Leaders.
