Spectacular Sundays in Shrewsbury

Shropshire Council is working with Shrewsbury traders to encourage more visitors to the town on Sundays by offering reduced rates for its car parks over the summer season.

This exciting promotion will start on Sunday 22nd July and will run until Sunday 9th September 2012, which ties in with the Government's relaxing of Sunday trading hours, allowing shops to remain open for longer.

Some of the shops in the town will be open for longer, while many of the independent shops will be opening on a Sunday for the first time ever.

To help people make the most of this, people will be able to park all day for just £1 in the Raven Meadows multi-storey car park which has approximately 850 spaces.  The council has also extended this particular car park’s opening hours from 9am until 7pm.

In addition, if people pay to park for one hour in all of the other council car parks, they will be able to park for the rest of the day for free.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for car parks, said “We want to work in partnership with the traders in Shrewsbury and are really pleased to be making this offer to encourage people to come and visit Shrewsbury.  We hope that, with these special rates in our council car parks, people will feel relaxed to stay longer and enjoy a day out in the town.”

Andrew Bannerman, Shropshire Councillor for Quarry and Coton Hill, added “This is a great initiative following the council’s discussions with local business.  It should be a real boost to the town and hopefully more people will come to realise what a lot Shrewsbury has to offer.”
