Buzzing summer activities

The Hive Music and Media Centre in Shrewsbury has a full programme of creative workshops for young people aged 8-16, providing the perfect opportunity to liven up the long summer break by developing new skills, having fun and being creative!

Play In A Week will be taking place the week of Monday July 30 and will give participants the chance to take part in fun drama workshops, incorporating everything from acting through to stage management and lighting. Run by Shropshire Youth Theatre, one of the many groups who meet at the Hive on a weekly basis, the workshop for 8-16 year olds will cost £75 for the full week.

There will be an animation workshop on Tuesday August 14 for young people aged 8-13, where they will be able to explore digital and stop-frame techniques to create an animation in a day, producing plasticine characters and colourful sets. The workshop will take place between 10am and 3:30pm and costs £17.50.

This will be followed by an Eco-fashion workshop taking place on August 15 giving young people the opportunity to make stylish home and fashion accessories with local fashion designer Jo Bloodworth. The exciting customisation workshop is aimed at ages 8-13 and costs £17.50.

Habib Malik-Mansell, Marketing Assistant said “For those aged 8-13 who are after something more musical, there will be a music-making and song-writing workshop on Tuesday August 21. Participants will be able to spend the day working with professional musicians, composing original music tracks and writing songs inspired by favourite artists.” He added that “A summer crafts workshop on August 22 will offer young people the chance to make stunning creations from natural and recycled materials, whilst using traditional techniques to learn new skills. The workshop for 8-13 year olds will cost £17.50 for the day.”

The final holiday workshop, Taiko drumming, will enable participants to bring out their lively musical spirit with a bang, creating memorable rhythms with brilliant beats. Taking place on August 28, the workshop is for ages 8-13 and costs £17.50.

There will also be live puppet shows for children, with both Foxtails and The Ugly Duckling due to be performed for younger audience members.
