Buy Local in Shrewsbury

Support small, sustainable businesses and strengthen the local economy. That's the introductory statement of a freshly launched website and new initiative which aims to encourage people to 'Buy Local' for their goods in Shrewsbury.

The website has been set-up as an additional strand of the Transition Town Shrewsbury group - and will be bringing together information about small local sustainable businesses on one website for customers to search and "Buy Local". The range will grow but it already includes food, drink, plants, arts & crafts and businesses committed to sustainability. Most of the businesses featured are within a 30 mile radius of Shrewsbury.

Speaking about the website, one of the people behind the scheme said "Our aims include narrowing the gap between producers, processors and customers and giving customers the choice to 'Buy Local'. Buying local strengthens and promotes Shrewsbury's economy, whilst spreading skills and knowledge, retaining and developing jobs at the same time."

More information on the Buy Local initiative can be found at http://www.shrewsbury-buylocal.co.uk/
